Johns Hopkins Shuts Out Washington College

The Basics

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team picked up its third shutout of the season as the Blue Jays beat the host Washington College Shorewomen, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon.
 
How it Happened
• The Blue Jays picked up a quick point in the match with a Shorewomen forfeit at third doubles. Senior Anjie Kashyap and graduate student Sophia Strickland then won without losing a game at second versus Piper Sartison and Ella Samer. Sophomores Emily Javedan and Anjali Devireddy then closed out doubles play with an 8-2 win over Irene Meng and Alisha White at first.
• Washington College also forfeited at sixth singles to give Hopkins a 4-0 lead in the match. Senior Dhanya Asokumar then clinched the win for the Blue Jays when she beat Bin Nguyen without dropping a game. Strickland beat White 6-0, 6-3 at third and Hopkins led 6-0.
• Freshman Ali Bader followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at fourth over Samer. Devireddy then defeated Sartison 6-0, 6-3 to push the Blue Jays' lead to 8-0. Kashyap wrapped up the match when she beat Meng 6-2, 7-5 at first.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 28-11 all-time against Washington College with its 21st straight win in the series.
• The Blue Jays run their regular season conference win streak to 134.
• Kashyap is now tied for 23rd with 34 career singles wins and is 22nd with 71 total career wins. Strickland now has 95 total career wins and needs just five wins to reach the century mark.
