Johns Hopkins Rolls Past Gettysburg, 9-0

The Basics

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over visiting Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten on the season. The Blue Jays lost just four total games in the shutout.
 
How it Happened
• Hopkins swept doubles to open the match and jump out to a 3-0 lead. Freshmen Arjun Asokumar and Rohan Reddy grabbed the first point of the match with an 8-0 win at second over Zach LaChance and Matt Rau. Freshmen James and Thomas Yu won by the same score versus Alex Kagan and Michael Zayneh at first. Freshman Daniel Ardila and senior Vishnu Joshi closed out doubles when they defeated Max Levy and Alec Shalk, 8-1, at third.
• Reddy was the first one off the court in singles play as well, beating Zayneh without losing a game at second. Thomas Yu then clinched the win for the Blue Jays when he beat Kagan, also without dropping a game, at first. James Yu followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win over LaChance at third and JHU led 6-0.
• Senior Robby Simon shutout Rau at sixth, 8-0, and junior Brian Wang turned the same trick at fifth with his win over Shalk. Sophomore Andrew Tran wrapped up the match and secured the shutout when he beat Patrick Bodovitz at fourth.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins is now 37-17 all-time against Gettysburg and has won 23 straight in the series.
• The Blue Jays push their win streak to eight as well as their regular season conference win streak to 38.
• Joshi now has 36 career doubles wins and moved into a tie for 25th in Hopkins history. In addition, he is tied for 22nd with 72 combined career wins (36 singles, 36 doubles).
 
Up Next
• Hopkins hits the road again on Saturday, April 24 as the Blue Jays travel to Collegeville, PA to take on the Ursinus Bears. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
