Five Blue Jays Garner All-Big Ten Honors

ROSEMONT, IL – The Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team had five players named to the 2021 All-Big Ten Team it was announced today. Seniors Kathleen Garvey, Trinity McPherson and Aurora Cordingley and junior Annika Meyer led the way with First Team All-Big Ten honors. Senior Shelby Harrison garnered second team honors.
 
 The Blue Jays' five All-Big Ten selections are the most since 2010 when the JHU produced five All-America Lacrosse Conference selections. Hopkins has now had 14 All-Big Ten honorees since joining the league in 2017. Hopkins' four first-team selections are tied with Northwestern for most in the league.
 
Garvey is the first Hopkins goalie to earn all-conference honors since 2010 and is just the sixth in the program's 46-year history. She has started all 12 games and ranks second in the Big Ten in goals against average (11.75), saves per game (8.58) and save percentage (.422). Garvey has posted six double-digit save performances, including a career-best 17 against then fourth-ranked Northwestern on February 26. That ranks as the third best total in school Division I history. She also ranks ninth in in career saves (175) and minutes played (1238:47).
 
Meyer and McPherson anchor a defense that ranks leads the Big Ten and ranks 13th in the nation in caused turnovers (10.25). The Blue Jays also rank second in the league in scoring defense (11.83) and third in ground balls (17.33). Meyer leads the team and is fourth in the Big Ten in ground balls (2.75). She also ranks second on the team and third in the league in takeaways (1.75).
 
McPherson leads Hopkins and ranks second in the Big Ten in caused turnovers (2.00). She is also second on the team and fifth in the conference in ground balls (2.33). Her 24 takeaways this season are the most by a Blue Jay since 2016. McPherson is tied for 16th in school DI history with 50 career caused turnovers.
 
Cordingley leads the Blue Jays in goals (35) and points (48) for the second straight year. She is also third in assists (13). Cordingley ranks fourth in the Big Ten in goals (2.92), third in points (4.00) and 12th in assists (1.08). She has had 11 multi-point games this season and carries a 41-game point streak into the Big Ten Tournament. She ranks in the top-10 in school DI history in points (172) and assists (61) and is 11th in goals (112).
 
Harrison earns her second All-Big Ten honor after picking up all-league honors as a freshman in 2018. For the fourth consecutive year, she has led the Blue Jays in draws (37) and she ranks 12th in the Big Ten with 3.08 per game. She has also totaled 13 goals, four assists, six ground balls and five caused turnovers from her midfield position. Harrison ranks third in school DI history with 229 career draws and her 4.08 draws per game is tops in program history.
 
Third-seeded Hopkins will face sixth-seeded Penn State in the Big Ten Quarterfinals on Thursday, April 29 at 8:00 pm. The winner will take on the winner of second-seeded Maryland and seventh-seeded Michigan in the semifinals on Friday, April 30 at 8:00 pm. The Big Ten Championship is set for Sunday, May 2 at 12:00 pm. The tournament is being hosted by Penn State and all six games will be televised by the Big Ten Network.
