Johns Hopkins Defeats Christopher Newport, 6-3

The Basics

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team closed out the regular season on Sunday afternoon with a 6-3 win over host Christopher Newport.
 
How it Happened
• Hopkins grabbed two doubles points to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles. The Blue Jays took the first point when sophomore Alexander Kernagis and senior Vishnu Joshi beat Matthew Dubuque and Scotty Hunter, 8-2, at third. The Captains then picked up a point when freshmen Thomas and James Yu had to retire at first doubles. Freshmen Arjun Asokumar and Rohan Reddy put Hopkins back on top with an 8-4 win at second.
• Joshi was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at first singles over Hunter while Thomas Yu beat James Baron 6-2, 6-1 at second and Hopkins led 4-1. Senior Eric Yoo then clinched the win for the Blue Jays with a come-from-behind win at fifth. After losing the first set, 6-1, he battled back to win the second, 6-2, and third, 7-5, over Ryan Macy.
• Sophomore Andrew Tran had a comeback of his own at fourth to earn the win. He lost the first set, 6-3, but won the second, 6-1, and third, 6-4, to put JHU up 6-1. Alec Strause then beat freshman Daniel Ardila 6-4, 6-2 at third to make it a 6-2 match. Eddy Porsmyr Hansen followed with another win for the Captains as he beat junior Brian Wang 0-6, 7-5, 1-0 (5) at sixth.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins is now 8-1 all-time against Christopher Newport and has won five in row over the Captains
• The Blue Jays have won 11 straight matches in a streak that dates back to the start of the 2020 season.
• Today's match was the Blue Jays' first non-conference contest since February 29, 2020.
