Five Blue Jays Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

Five Johns Hopkins women's soccer team members were voted as members of the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team it was announced earlier today. Five athletes are the most JHU has placed on the All-District Team since 2010 when six Blue Jays were spread across the three teams.
 
Caitlin Hendricks, Mizuho Obayashi, Alexandra Damron, Rachel Jackson and Riley O'Toole represent Johns Hopkins on the District 2 team. This is the second CoSIDA honor for Hendricks and Damron.
 
The Blue Jays now have 49 all-time Academic All-District selections and at least one Blue Jay has been honored in every year with an Academic All-District team since 2012.
 
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, Division II Division III and NAIA. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.
 
Hendricks earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the second time. Hendricks, a junior goalkeeper out of San Diego, CA, Hendricks had one of the best goalkeeping seasons in Blue Jay history in 2019. As a sophomore, Hendricks posted a record of 15-3-4, 83 saves, a 0.78 GAA and 10 shutouts. Her 2,068:51 minutes were the most in a single-season by a Blue Jay and her 15 wins was tied for the third-most in program history. The junior ranks in the top 10 in saves, shutouts, GAA, save percentage and wins in program history.
 
Working through her Bachelor of Arts in both Public Health and Natural Sciences, Hendricks has posted a cumulative GPA of 3.84 through her time at Hopkins. The Californian has been working as an Undergraduate Course Assistant and a Research Assistant at ARRWIP (Advocacy and Research on Reproductive Wellness of Incarcerated People). In her past, Hendricks has spent time as a Research Assistant at Johns Hopkins Hospital and at the University of California, San Diego. Hendricks also volunteers her time with Students Consulting for Non-Profit Organizations.
 
Obayashi, a first-time All-District selection, was named a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American in 2019. The senior defender was also a first team All-Region and All-Centennial selection in 2019. Appearing in 69 career contests, Obayashi started 47 of them, scoring three goals and handing out three assists.
 
Obayashi has spent part of the last three years as a Research Assistant in the Kamiya Laboratory at the JHU School of Medicine Schizophrenia Center. Previously, the Utah native worked as a Research Assistant in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Obayashi has also spent time during her JHU career as a University Study Consultant, a JHU Best Buddies mentor and an active member of Nu Rho Psi, the Undergraduate Honor Society for Neuroscience.
 
Damron makes her second appearance on the CoSIDA Academic All-District team after joining Hendricks and Carly Lupton-Smith on the 2019 team. The senior totaled three goals, eight assists and 14 points in her Hopkins career, appearing in 66 career games. In 2019, Damron handed out a career-best five assists.
 
Set to graduate with a 3.7 GPA and a Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Damron is set to begin her career as a Clinical Research Associate at Cedars Sinai Women's Heart Health Center in Los Angeles. Also, a member of the women's track & field team, Damron has worked previously as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Department of Neurology. Prior to that, Damron spent time at the hospital's John G. Bartlett Specialty Clinic and the JHU Center for Sensory Biology.  
 
A junior with a 3.59 GPA in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, Jackson earned her first Academic All-District honor. A 2x All-Region selection and 2019 All-Centennial Selection, Jackson has scored 20 goals in 43 career games. The Vienna, VA native has totaled 47 career points, better than one per game. The 2018 Centennial Rookie of the Year is tied for sixth in program history with 27 points as a freshman.
 
Off the pitch, Jackson has spent time as a Clinical Lab Assistant at Curative. She is currently a Differential Equations PILOT Leader and the Public Relations Chair of the National Society of Black Engineers. She also serves as the Social Media and Marketing Executive Chair of the Black Student Athlete Association.
 
Last, but certainly not least, O'Toole is the fifth Blue Jay to earn All-District honors. A December 2020 graduate in Public Health Studies and Natural Sciences Area, O'Toole is currently pursuing her Masters of Health Science. A two-year team captain, O'Toole has appeared in 53 games, totaling 56 points. A 2017 All-Region selection & Centennial Rookie of the Year, O'Toole's 25 career goals are tied for 17th in program history.
 
Away from the field, the Californian serves as a Clinical Research Coordinator w/ the JHU SOM Department of Psychiatry & Neuroradiology. O'Toole has worked in both Clinical and Lab Research and also spent time as a Psychology Tech at the VA San Diego Healthcare System.
