Johns Hopkins Holds Off Ninth-Ranked Rowan, 3-2

The Basics
• Score: #3 Johns Hopkins-3, #9 Rowan-2
• Records: JHU (4-0) • RU (2-1)
• Location: Glassboro, NJ • Coach Wackar Stadium
• The Short Story: In a game befitting two top-10 teams, the Johns Hopkins field hockey team beat host and ninth-ranked Rowan, 3-2, in a back-and-forth contest Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Hopkins got on the board just 8:02 into the game when senior Maddie Brown-Scherer collected a rebound and fired home a back-handed shot from 10 yards out. Junior Tessa Erickson then redirected a shot from senior Abby Birk to push the Blue Jays' lead to two midway through the third quarter.
• Rowan, which had scored 12 goals in its first two games, broke through with less than two minutes remaining in the third. Off a Julia Cavicchio corner, Krystyna Hovell fired a shot to the lower left corner from the top right of the circle.
• Five minutes into the fourth quarter, senior Bryn Rolon collected a loose ball near the left post and back-handed it home to put Hopkins up 3-1. Just over four minutes later, the Jays' lead was back to one when Cavicchio redirected a shot from Hovell off another Profs' corner. In the final minute, Hovell had a chance to tie the game, but sophomore Alexis Loder turned away the game-tying goal.

What it Means
• Today's game was the first-ever meeting between the Blue Jays and the Profs.
