The Short Story: The second-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team scored goals in the second, third and fourth quarters to shutout ninth-ranked Salisbury, 3-0, on Wednesday night.
Â
How it Happened
• With just over five minutes remaining until the half, the Blue Jays broke a scoreless tie as they capitalized on a takeaway deep in the Sea Gulls' end. Junior
Tessa Erickson intercepted a pass 20 yards out and slid a pass to classmate
Sadie Abboud. She collected the pass and slotted a shot under the pad of Salisbury goalie Dom Farrace to stake Hopkins to a 1-0 lead.
• The Blue Jays doubled their lead early in the second half off a quick counter attack. As she got knocked to the ground, senior
Maddie Brown-Scherer passed the ball ahead to freshman
Emily Amsden, who banged it into the cage at the right post.
• Hopkins closed out the scoring less than two minutes into the fourth quarter off a penalty corner. Senior
Abby Birk was on the receiving end of a give-and-go with Brown-Scherer in the middle of the circle. She one-timed the pass from Brown-Scherer into the bottom right corner to put Hopkins on top 3-0.
Â
