The Short Story: The second-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team opened Centennial Conference play with a 2-0 win at host Swarthmore Saturday afternoon.
Â
How it Happened
• Hopkins broke a scoreless tie in early in the second quarter off a penalty corner. Freshman
Emily Amsden sent the corner up top to senior
Sarah Matyas. Matyas drew a double team and then passed to junior
Olivia Fox, who took one touch and blasted a shot in the lower left corner 5:17 into the second.
• The Blue Jays added a late goal off a great individual effort from senior
Izzy Thompson. The Garnet were restarting deep in their end after a ball out of bounds. Thompson stepped into the passing lane, picked off the pass and one-timed a shot under a charging Victoria Kimmel to put Hopkins up 2-0 with under five minutes to play.
Â
What it Means
