The Short Story: The second-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team used a three-goal second quarter to take control in a 5-0 win over visiting Dickinson Wednesday night.
Â
How it Happened
• Hopkins grabbed the lead late in the first quarter on a
Grace Nockolds goal. Junior
Olivia Fox sent a long ball into the circle and classmate
Sam Chabot tipped it forward. Nockolds collected the ball, turned and slotted a shot past Saige Stevens and into the Dickinson goal with 3:05 to play in the quarter.
• The Blue Jays then erupted for three goals in a four-minute span midway through the second quarter to push out to a 4-0 lead.
• Senior
Maddie Brown-Scherer ignited the run when she intercepted a clearing pass and fed the ball to junior
Sadie Abboud, who scored from a tough angle down low at 19:39. Just three minutes later, sophomore
Gen Mehra hit a reverse at the top of the circle to Brown-Scherer, who backhanded the ball into the cage.
• Hopkins lead grew to four 75 seconds later off another Brown-Scherer assist. She took a hard shot that was saved by Stevens, collected the rebound and lifted another shot on cage, that junior
Tessa Erickson batted home for the score.
• The Blue Jays capped the scoring less than two minutes into the fourth quarter after a string of one-touch passes. Junior
Anna Scott restarted play after a ball out of bounds and sent a short pass to senior
Sarah Matyas, who hit a long pass down the sideline to Chabot. She centered the ball Fox, who then passed to senior
Izzy Thompson. She collected the pass and then found sophomore
Maura Minter and with her back to the goalie took the pass, turned and slipped a shot under Stevens. Â
