GETTYSBURG, PA- The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team travelled up to Gettysburg to take on the Bullets in their first road conference matchup of the season. The Blue Jays came up short due to a rocky fourth quarter in which they were outscored 25-8 by the Bullets and ultimately dropped their first road conference game of the season, 63-48.
Gettysburg were lights out from the floor in the 4
th quarter going 9-for-15 as a team to help them pull away at the end of the game. They started out the quarter on a 14-2 run and would not squander the lead the rest of the way. The Bullets also locked things down on the defensive side of things, holding JHU to just 20% from the field in the quarter to also propel them to the victory. Gettysburg also controlled the glass in the fourth quarter, outrebounding the Blue Jays 15-6. For the game, the Bullets out rebounded Hopkins 39-31, the Blue Jays have lost both games they have been outrebounded.
Lee Shinya led the way in boards for the Bullets with 10, followed by
Alayna Arnolie with 7 and
Mackenzie Szlosek with 5.
Johns Hopkins played an impressive second quarter which assisted them in taking a 19-17 lead into the halftime break. They outscored the Bullets 12-2 in the second quarter and locked down the Bullets as they shot just 1-for-12 from the field and turned the ball over seven times. The Blue Jays were able to hold onto the lead all the way until the fourth quarter.
The numbers were even across the board in the contest except at the free throw line. Johns Hopkins went 3-for-8 (38%) from the foul line, while Gettysburg nearly tripled the amount made by the Blue Jays going 14-20 (70%) from the charity stripe.
Michaela O'Neil led the way in scoring for the Jays with 10 points,
Olivia Parisi provided a spark off the bench with 8 points and 8 rebounds and
Greta Miller added 7 points. The Blue Jays fell to 3-2 on the season, with a 1-1 record in conference.
Arnolie led all scorers in the game with 15, followed by AB Holsinger with 12 and Lee with 12. Gettysburg is now 2-1 on the young season and 1-0 in the Centennial.
The Blue Jays return to the hardwood on Sunday Nov. 27 when they take on Marymount away from home (1 pm).
