The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's swim team had a solid showing on the first day of the Cavalier Invitational. The lone Division III team in the seven-team field, the Blue Jays posted five NCAA B times as well as three career best.

Top Finishers
• Hopkins opened the session with a second-place finish in the 200 Free Relay. Senior
Collin Hughes, sophomores
Jay Heymann and
Reef Ide and junior
Spencer Ryan finished in 1:23.18.
• Freshman
Jonik Surprenant then grabbed a win in the 500 Free. He beat the field to the wall with an NCAA B time of 4:33.02. Senior
Mitchell Simmons finished in fourth place with a time of 4:35.24, while junior
Alec Caswell took fifth (4:39.10) and graduate student
CJ Arena took sixth (4:40.33).
• In the 200 IM, graduate student
Matt McGough led the Blue Jays with a third-place finish and an NCAA B time of 1:50.10. Freshman
Joe Castagno finished in fourth place in an NCAA B time of 1:51.16. Freshman
Eric Ji followed closely in fifth and also turned in an NCAA B time (1:51.39). Freshman
Nathan Jin took sixth place in 1:52.39.
• Ryan was the top Blue Jay in the 50 Free as he finished in sixth place with a time of 21.16.
• Sophomore
Chris Seymour swam a 1:47.63 in a 200 Fly time trial. His time is not only an NCAA B time, but also the sixth fastest in program history.

• Hopkins returns to the Virginia Aquatic & Fitness Center on Saturday morning for the second day of the Cavalier Invitational. The morning session will kick-off with the prelims of the 100 Fly at 11:00 am.
