Winston-Salem, NC - Coming into the weekend without an Indoor National Champion in program history, the Blue Jays now have two after
Ella Baran joined
Victoria Kadiri with a victory in the mile this afternoon. Baran edged out Trine's Evie Miller by less than half a second to earn her first career national championship. Baran placed second in two events at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships and earned All-America honors at Cross Country Championships. On Saturday, Baran broke through, running the mile in 4:47.97 to become a national champion. Baran caps off a truly remarkable 2022 campaign, breaking multiple school records and running the fastest mile in women's DIII history earlier this season.
Baran's day wasn't over just yet, as she competed in the 3000 and earned another All-American award to add to her mantle. Baran placed sixth in the 3000, crossing the finish line in 9:47.40.
The Best Of The Rest
- Sara Stephenson joined Baran as an All-American in the 3000, grabbing an eighth-place finish in a loaded field to earn her first career AA nod. Stephenson crossed the finish line in 9:51.97,
- Lina Spjut (11th), Alex Ross (17th), Sydney Friedel (18th), Diana Vizza (20th) joined Baran and Stephenson in the 3000. Spjut finished 11th with a time of 9:57.30.
Team Performance
- Johns Hopkins places fourth at this year's 2022 Indoor Championships with 33 points. Loras (59), Wisconisn-LaCrosse (44), Ithaca (40), JHU (33) and Wash U. (25) made up this year's top-five finishers.
