Why They Vary
Directors' Cup points accumulated can vary by sport based on the size of a team bracket or the number of teams that score points at a particular NCAA championship (note the difference between the 27th-place finish in fencing (20 points) and the 52nd-place finish in men's indoor track (20.5)).

Leading the Way
Since the formation of the Directors' Cup in 1995-96, the men's and women's swimming teams are the only teams at Johns Hopkins to score every year.  With its 90 points this year, the men's swimming team has now earned 1,838.3 points, the most of any Blue Jay team.  With 1,586.5 points to its credit, women's swimming is second on that list.

The Big Picture
There are more than 400 schools competing under the NCAA Division III banner and 270 of those schools have scored points in the Directors' Cup standings through the winter.

About the the Learfield Directors' Cup
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Through the course of the year, Directors' Cup points are awarded based on a school's finish in up to 18 sports.  New to the scoring structure four years ago in Division III, men's and women's soccer and men's and women's basketball must be included by every school in their scoring total.  Previously, the top nine men's and women's scoring teams could be counted; now, regardless of whether a school's soccer and basketball teams qualify for the NCAAs, they must be counted among the 18.
