• The Short Story: The 20th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team beat Franklin & Marshall and Dickinson in a pair of Centennial Conference matches Friday afternoon.

How it Happened • Franklin & Marshall
• Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles and then completed the shutout with a singles' sweep. Five of the six singles' matches were decided in straight sets.
• Junior Alexander Kernagis and senior Brian Wang took the first point of the match with an 8-4 win over Justin Pace and Tristan Steffe at second doubles. Sophomores Daniel Ardila and Thomas Yu then beat Adrian Charchalis and Isaac Rockower 8-3 at first. Sophomores Marco Azar and Nick Charanjiva completed the sweep with an 8-4 win at third over Anthony Casale and Pedro Norte.
• Kernagis pushed the Blue Jays' lead to four with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Norte at fifth singles. Azar then secured the win when he beat Rockower 6-3, 6-0 at fourth. Wang followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at third over Steffe.
• Yu made it a 7-0 Hopkins lead with a 6-4, 6-0 defeat of Charchalis at first. Charanjiva rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (7) win over Casale at sixth. Ardila then wrapped up the shutout with a 7-5, 7-5 win at second over Pace.

How it Happened • Dickinson
• The Blue Jays took a 2-1 lead on the Red Devils and then won five of six singles matches to defeat the host Red Devils.
• Senior Ryan Hellinger and graduate student Vishnu Joshi blanked Garrick Adams and Thomas Griffin at first to give Hopkins the early lead. Senior Eric Burrer and junior Andrew Tran then beat Romano De Caprio and Will Lewis, 8-3, at second. DJ Finnell and Levi Veleanu cut JHU's lead in half with an 8-5 win over sophomore Karan Belday and senior Tim Treinen at third.
• Joshi picked up another win without losing as a game as he beat Adams at first singles to stake Hopkins to a 3-1 lead. Tran followed with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Griffin at second. Hellinger clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-0 win over De Caprio at fourth.
• Finnell earned another point for Dickinson as he beat Treinen 6-0, 6-4 at sixth. Belday answered with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lewis at fifth. Burrer wrapped up the match with a 6-2, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (9) win over Veleanu at third.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 33-34 all-time against Franklin & Marshall with its 22nd straight win in the series. The Blue Jays won their 28th straight over the Red Devils and are now 45-5 in the series.
• JHU is now 16-1 on the season – the best record through 17 matches in program history.
• The win sets up a regular-season finale with 32nd-ranked Swarthmore tomorrow afternoon. The Blue Jays can clinch a share of the regular season Centennial Conference title with a win. If Hopkins wins and Haverford beats Gettysburg, that creates a three-way tie for first in the conference. In that scenario, the Blue Jays must beat the Garnet by a 6-3 score, or better, in order to be the number one seed.
• Yu improves to 23-5 in singles, one why shy of tying the program record held by David Maldow (2008) and Andy Hersh (2011). He also has 22 doubles wins on the season, giving him 45 total. That is two shy of tying Mike Buxbaum's single season record (2016).

Up Next
•  Hopkins hosts Swarthmore in both teams' regular-season finale on Saturday, April 30. The match is slated for a 3:00 pm start at the JHU Tennis Courts.
