ANNAPOLIS, MD – Johns Hopkins opened its fall season this past weekend at Navy's Joe Hunt Invitational. The tournament was an individual flighted tournament with round robin play within each flight. The field consisted of players from Navy, Campbell (CU), Coppin State (CSU), Delaware (UD), Fairleigh Dickinson (FDU), George Mason (GMU), Mary Washington (UMW), Morgan State (MSU) and St. Bonaventure (SBU).
Chakor Rajendra went 2-1 in singles with wins over Joshua Oboniye (FDU) and Nathan Nguyen (Navy). In doubles, he partnered with
Brian Yi and they went 3-0. They beat teams from Fairleigh Dickinson, Coppin State and Navy. Yi won two of his three singles matches, beating Gareth Ong (FDU) and Mohamed Ridha Ghettas (MSU).
Dylan Blenkiron posted a 2-1 record in singles, picking up wins Deniz Okyay (GMU) and Jake Young (Navy). He paired up with
Allen Gong in doubles. The duo won one of three matches, beating Gryffin Minor and Joshua Oboniye (FDU). Gong went 2-1 in singles, earning wins over Matias Lofink (CU) and Niza Simunyola (GMU) before withdrawing from his third match.
Joshua Kim took his first two matches in straight sets before dropping his third match. He picked up wins over Asaf Schwartz (FDU) and Zavan Fahim (GMU).
Pranav Gadiraju ended singles play with a win after dropping his first two matches. He grabbed a come-from-behind three-set win over Evan Fisher (UMW). He partnered with
Mukundh Boopathi in doubles and the duo won two of their three matches. They picked up wins over teams from Campbell and Morgan State. Boopathi won all three of his singles matches and dropped just one set. He earned wins over Andre Dogbefu (CSU), Adria Franco Regue (GMU) and Aaron Gu (Navy).
Jason Li won two of his three matches in singles. He picked up victories over Liam Murtaugh (CSU) and Edgar Vilain (GMU). Li paired with
Andy Zhu to go 2-1 in doubles. The due grabbed wins over teams from Morgan State and George Mason. In singles, Zhu won his two matches while dropping just four total games. His wins came over Antonio Santos (MSU) and Zack Giertz (Navy).
Gabriel Xu went 2-1 in singles with straight sets wins over Dentry Mortimer (CSU) and Kai Edwards (Navy). He partnered with
Daniel Greene to win two of three doubles matches. The freshman duo earned wins over two different teams from Coppin State. Greene went 2-0 in singles, earning wins over Jacob Poole (MSU) and Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov (CSU).
Hopkins returns to the court next weekend for the UMW Kickoff Classic in Fredericksburg, VA.
