The Johns Hopkins Blue Jay women's track & field team will send eight athletes to Ohio this week to compete in a total of 13 events at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships.
Annie Gutierrez will compete in three events for the Jays while
Victoria Kadiri,
Alex Ross and
Sara Stephenson will compete in two events at Spire starting on Thursday.
Gutierrez, a graduate from Coral Gables, FL, will compete in the pole vault, long jump, and heptathlon. Gutierrez comes into NCAA's as the sixth seed in the pole vault after a 3.88m vault at the Centennial Championships. She is seeded fourth in the long jump after a 5.93m jump at AARTFC's this past week. Finally, the multi athlete is the seventh seed in the heptathlon after a 4,628-point performance at the Mondschein Multis earlier this year.
Kadiri is the two-seed in the long and triple jump and comes in as the defending indoor long jump champion. Kadiri is tied with Katy Nippert of WPI for the longest jump of the season at 6.06m. She is second in the triple jump with a 12.42m jump.
Ross and Stephenson are set to double up on distance events with both competing in the 5,000. Ross is the eighth seed in the 5K with a time of 16:41.14 while Stephenson sneaks into the field as the last entrant with a time of 17:01.02. Ross will also run the 10,000 as the number six seed with a qualifying time of 34:57.80. Stephenson will take a crack at the 3,000m Steeplechase and enters as the 15-seed with a 10:55.68 qualifying time.
Lauren Phillips,
Ella Baran,
Lina Spjut and
Bridgid Selfors will all compete in one event. Phillips qualified for the 400 with a school-record time of 56.46 at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational. Baran will try to win a national championship as the top seed in the 5,000, qualifying with a time of 15:49.09. Lina Spjut is the 10
th seed in the 5,000 field with a time of 16:41.83. Finally, Selfors will run the 10,000 after qualifying with a time of 35:54.04.
The Outdoor Championships start on Thursday, May 26
