Geneva, OH – Make that three! Sophomore
Victoria Kadiri added her second outdoor national title in three days and her third overall title of the year as she captured gold in the triple jump on the final day of the NCAA Division III Women's Track Championships on Saturday. That would be impressive enough … but Kadiri started competing in the triple jump just two months ago.
The Lynn, MA native's fourth attempt of 12.43m did the trick as she edged Washington University's Alice Gupte by the slimmest of margins – 0.01m. She is the first athlete in program history to win three national titles, moving past Blue Jay Hall of Famer Sylke Knuppel.
Saturday Tidbits
- Ella Baran added her second All-America honor in the 5,000 as she finished in 16:20.49. It is her second top-three finish in the event as she was the national runner-up at the 2021 championships.
- Alex Ross just missed earning her second All-America honor of the championships with a ninth-place finish in the 5,000 (16:51.47). Lina Spjut placed 16th with a finals time of 17:46.10 and Sara Stephenson placed 18th in 18:05.24.
- Stephenson also finished in ninth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time 10:51.33. She dropped more than four seconds off her prelim time and was more than nine seconds faster than her seed time.
Team Performance
- The Blue Jays are bringing home a team trophy from the NCAA Championships for the second time this year. After finishing in fourth place at the indoor championship in March, Hopkins piled up 38 points to finish in a tie for third at the outdoor championship.
- The third-place finish matches the Blue Jays' best finish at the outdoor championships as JHU also placed third in 2019. Hopkins has now placed in the top-five at each of the last three NCAA Outdoor Championships.
