BALTIMORE, MD – Owen McManus, who graduated from Johns Hopkins in May with a degree in economics, has been named to the 2022 USILA Scholar All-America Team it was recently announced.  McManus is the 18^th Johns Hopkins player to earn USILA Scholar All-America honors since the program debuted in 1989.
 
To be named to the USILA Scholar All-America Team, players must be nominated by their coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player. Ultimately, final selections are made by the Scholar All-America Committee.
 
McManus, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, graduated with a 3.88 cumulative grade point average after posting a perfect 4.0 this spring.  He started all 16 games as a senior in 2022, when he scored three goals and added 18 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.  Overall, he played in 45 games with 32 starts in his career and rang up four goals, 34 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers.  After playing in 11 games as a short-stick defensive midfielder as a freshman in 2019, he made the move to close defense as a sophomore in 2020 and played in 34 of Hopkins' 35 games over his last three seasons with all 32 of his starts in that time.
 
McManus' selection as a USILA Scholar All-American adds to his already extensive list of honors and awards.  In addition to his three Academic All-Big Ten selections, he has also twice been named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (2020, 2021).  The 2022 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars will be announced in the near future.
