Johns Hopkins Falls at Lynchburg, 2-0

LYNCHBURG, VA – The third-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team fell 2-0 to host Lynchburg Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Hornets needed just over three minutes in the second to get on the board. Off a restart, Olivia Muir sent a long ball to Sydney Rowe near the right endline. She collected the pass and then scored on a tough shot across the goal and inside the left post at 18:33.

Lynchburg doubled its lead at the 8:12 mark in the third quarter. Sarah McCollum dribbled in and hit the ball from the right side into the circle, where Emily Yanes tapped it in at the right post.

Hopkins outshot Lynchburg 26-4 and had a 7-2 advantage in corners. Freshman Phoebe Williams finished with one save in one quarter of action for the Blue Jays. Kayla Brady made 16 saves to earn the shutout for the Hornets.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 21 versus Randolph-Macon. The non-conference contest is slated for a 7:00 pm start at Homewood Field.
