Urbanski's Game-Winner Lifts Hopkins Past York, 1-0

Blue Jays Improve to 3-0 with Non-Conference Win

BALTIMORE, MD – The second-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team got a third-quarter goal from senior Siena Urbanski and the Blue Jay defense limited visiting York to just six shots in a 1-0 victory at Homewood Field Wednesday afternoon.  The win improves the Blue Jays' record to 3-0 on the year, while York suffered its first loss and slips to 2-1.

Urbanski netted what proved to be the game's only goal at the 9:09 mark of the third quarter when she converted a penalty stroke after York was called for a foul on the goal line with the Blue Jays pressing.  York goalie Belle Fields got a good read on Urbanski's offering low to her right, but wasn't able to make the save despite getting a piece of the shot.
Johns Hopkins had two other golden opportunities to score in the game as Anna Scott ripped one off the post off a corner in the first half and Fields actually stopped a Blue Jay penalty stroke just 28 seconds before Urbanski put hers home.

York's best chance came in the second quarter when Riley Buschert blew a backhander from the top of the circle low towards the corner, but Hopkins' Phoebe Williams was able to kick it away.  Williams and Morgan Seward split the game in goal for the Blue Jays and combined for three saves in the victory.

Johns Hopkins held advantages in shots (14-6) and corner (5-2), but Fields made four saves for the Spartans as the Blue Jays never found an insurance goal.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Saturday, September 10 when the Blue Jays welcome Rowan to Homewood Field (6 pm).
