LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins freshman defender
Ava Venuti has been named the Centennial Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week it was announced today. Venuti helped guide the Blue Jays to a pair of Centennial Conference victories – both by shutout - last week.
Â
Venuti started both games on defense and spearheaded a unit that posted shutouts of Washington College (3-0) and Gettysburg (5-0). Johns Hopkins did not allow a shot in the win over the Shorewomen and just two in the win over the Bullets. For good measure, Venuti added the first assist of her career in the 5-0 win at Gettysburg as she collected the helper on a
Megha Salvi goal early in the second half that gave Johns Hopkins a 3-0 lead.
Â
Venuti has played in 10 games with four starts and counts two goals and one assist for five points to her credit. She made her first career start in a 4-1 win at Ursinus on September 23 and has started each of the last four games. Venuti is the only freshman field player who has started a game for the Blue Jays this season.
Â
The seventh-ranked Blue Jays (10-1-1, 6-0 Centennial) return to action on Wednesday, October 11 when they travel to 20
th-ranked Swarthmore for a key game against the Garnet (9-0-1, 5-0 Centennial).
