WESTMINSTER, MD – The third-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team got two-goal games from
Siena Urbanski, Jenna
Halpin and
Grace Waldeck as the Blue Jays beat host McDaniel, 7-1, Wednesday night.
Waldeck put the Blue Jays on the board 8:51 into the game with the first of her two. She dribbled up the left side line, cut back on her defender and then fired a hard shot just inside the circle to the right post.
Hopkins then erupted with three goals in the second to take a 4-0 lead into the half. Urbanski opened the scoring in the period when she settled a pass from junior
Ava Balacek and then slotted it home just 1:55 in. Two minutes later, Urbanski collected a long hit from senior
Emily Knight, and passed the ball across the mouth of the cage to Waldeck, who one-timed it in at the left post. Urbanski capped the second quarter when she put home her own rebound off a corner.
Senior
Gen Mehra scored just 2:23 into the third quarter to push the Blue Jays' lead to 5-0. Knight again sent a long ball into the circle that was tipped by Waldeck and then junior
Emily Amsden. Mehra was open on the backside to redirect the ball into the cage. Halpin got the first of her two scores with only 56 ticks left in the third. She collected a corner insert from Balacek, took a couple of touches and then fired a low shot to the back of the cage.
McDaniel ended the shutout bid with 4:54 to play when Emma Legacy lifted a loose ball into the top of the cage off a Green Terror corner. Halpin answered for the Blue Jays just 45 seconds later. She received a corner insert from Urbaanski and blasted a shot from the top of the circle just inside the left post.
Hopkins outshot McDaniel, 16-6, and had an 11-10 edge in corners. Senior
Alexis Loder, sophomore
Phoebe Williams and freshman
Aubrey Kilgore combined for the win in the cage. Loder finished with three saves while Williams made one. Senior
Mikayla Schoff also added a defensive save. Green Terror goalie Lora Scarangello posted three saves in the loss.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 21 as the Blue Jays travel to 24
th-ranked Swarthmore. The Centennial Conference contest is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
