Hopkins Tops Franklin & Marshall to Grab CC Top Seed

BALTIMORE, MD – The third-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team beat 23rd-ranked Franklin & Marshall, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in both teams' regular season finale. The Blue Jays secured the Centennial Conference regular season title and the top seed in next week's tournament.

Hopkins improves to 16-1 overall and 10-0 in the conference, while the Diplomats fall to 10-7 and 8-2 in the CC.

Hopkins got on the board midway through the second quarter as the Blue Jays capitalized on a penalty corner. Senior Siena Urbanski inserted the corner to junior Liz Falterer at the top of the circle. She then dribbled up the right side, past several defenders, and beat Dips' goalie Meghan Dole to the near post at 22:39.

Franklin & Marshall pulled even in the third quarter when the visitors drew a penalty stroke. Annie Malatesta stepped up and scored on the stroke to tie the game at one at the 39:38-mark. JHU answered less than a minute later after forcing a turnover deep in F&M's end. Junior Emma Rose intercepted a pass and then passed the ball to senior Gen Mehra, who found freshman Sydney DelBello in the circle. DelBello took one touch to settle the ball and then slotted a low shot under Dole to put the Blue Jays up 2-1 at 40:34.

Both defenses stood tall for the remainder of the game and Hopkins took home the win.

Hopkins had an 11-10 edge in shots while Franklin & Marshall had 13-8 advantage in corners. Senior Alexis Loder finished with three saves and classmate Mikayla Schoff added a defensive save. Dole made six saves and got a defensive save from Kat Thistlewaite.

Hopkins earns a bye in the Centennial Conference Tournament and will host a semifinal game on Thursday, November 2.

Notes: Johns Hopkins finishes with its fourth straight undefeated conference season and has now won 40 straight regular season CC games • Head coach Jane Wells moves into second place in program history with 109 wins at Homewood.
