Urbanski and Mehra Lead Johns Hopkins To 5-0 Win At Haverford

HAVERFORD, PA – Seniors Siena Urbanski and Gen Mehra combined for four goals to lead the third-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team to a 5-0 win at Haverford Saturday in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference while the Fords fall to 6-5 with a 1-3 record in the CC.

Hopkins jumped on top of Haverford early, scoring twice in the first seven and a half minutes. Urbanski opened the scoring just 99 seconds in when backhanded a rebound into the top of the cage. Less than six minutes later, junior Ava Balacek inserted a corner up to classmate Liz Falterer, who sent it right back to her. Balacek then one-timed the ball inside the left post for the score.

The Blue Jays pushed their lead to three late in the third quarter. Urbanski tracked down a ball on the endline, dribbled in and ripped a shot from the top of the circle past Fords' goalie Mary Smith for her second of the game with 4:10 to play in the quarter.

Mehra scored twice in a 93-second span early in the fourth to stake Hopkins to the 5-0 lead. Amidst a scrum in front of the Fords' cage, Mehra poked home her first goal at the 47:49-mark. She then collected a loose ball near the top of the circle and hit a hard, low shot past the outstretched pads of Smith.

Senior Alexis Loder made one save to earn fourth shutout of the season. Smith finished with 12 saves in the loss. Hopkins outshot Haverford, 22-3, and had a 15-1 advantage in corners.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, October 11 as the Blue Jays host Washington College. The Centennial Conference contest is slated for a 7:00 pm start at Homewood Field.

Notes: Urbanski now ranks 22nd in JHU history with 55 career points and is tied for 18th with 23 career goals.
