Alexis Loder made a save in the waning seconds to send the fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team back to the NCAA Semifinals. The Blue Jays beat the sixth-ranked Salisbury Sea Gulls, 1-0, on Sunday at Homewood Field.
Hopkins improves to 20-1 and runs its win streak to 18. This is the Blue Jays' second 20-win season in the last three years. JHU advances to the NCAA Final Four for the fifth consecutive year.
Salisbury had a couple of good lucks in the second quarter, but Loder stood tall, making a pair of saves to send the teams into the half scoreless. Hopkins came out fast in the third quarter and earned a pair of corners midway through the period. It was the second one that did the trick as the Blue Jays scored what turned out to be the game's only goal. Senior

Liz Falterer, she took one touch and then slipped a pass to Schoff on her right. Schoff then blasted a shot just inside the right post with 6:53 to play in the quarter.
The Sea Gulls looked to tie the game in the final minute of the third with back-to-back penalty corners. But Molly Reardon's shot was blocked the defense and the Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead into the fourth. McKenna Horner had a good look at the cage early in the fourth, but Loder turned it aside to keep the Blue Jays on top. Senior
Gen Mehra nearly gave Hopkins a two-goal cushion with 2:04 to play, but her deflection just missed wide.
Salisbury had one last shot in the waning seconds as the Sea Gulls earned a corner with 12 seconds on the clock. Marli McDorman ripped a shot from the left side of the circle, but Loder kicked it out and time expired.
Loder finished with four saves to earn her 39
th career win, tying the program record. Addy O'Connell made a pair of saves in the loss for the Sea Gulls. Salisbury had a 7-6 edge in shots, while Hopkins had a 7-6 edge in corners.
Hopkins will take on 14
th-ranked Kean in the national semifinals on Friday, November 17. The game is slated for a 12:00 pm start at Jennings Family Stadium in Newport News, VA.
