NEW YORK, NY – The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team picked up wins over NJIT and Stevens at the Columbia Invitational Saturday.
Hopkins opened the day with a hard-fought 15-12 over NJIT, with wins in the Sabre (6-3) and Foil (5-4).
Alex Jeffords,
William Hu and
Leonid Kotov each won two bouts for the Sabre squad.
Alan Zheng won all three of his bouts, including the clinching one, to lead the Foil squad to the win. The Highlanders grabbed a 5-4 in the Epee.
Jorge Gana and
Ayan Bhatnagar won two bouts each for the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays then cruised to a 21-6 win over the Stevens Ducks, with a sweep of the weapons. Jeffords again won each of his bouts, including the clinching one, to lead the Sabre squad to a 5-4 win. Zheng,

Spencer Grossman Smisek all won two bouts in a 7-2 win for the Foil squad. Gana,
Ethan Insler and
Matthew Dao led the Sabre squad to a 9-0 win.
Hopkins ended the day with a 17-10 loss to host and second-ranked Columbia. Jeffords and
Qi Tong each won a bout in a 7-2 loss for the Sabre squad. Grossman Smisek won two bouts in a 6-3 loss for the Foil squad. Dao and Gana won two bouts each, with Gana clinching the Epee squad's 5-4 win.
Hopkins returns to action on December 9 at Haverford.
