Johns Hopkins Turns In Four NCAA Times at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, PA – The Johns Hopkins men's swim team posted four NCAA B times, as well as five career bests, on day one of the Bucknell Invitational. The only Division III team at the meet, Blue Jays are in fifth place, out of six teams, with 275 points.
 
Hopkins opened the night with a fifth-place finish in the 200 Free Relay. The team of freshman Adam Sandid, sophomore Avery Clapp, freshman Andrew Gilbert and sophomore Christian Mayr finished in 1:22.05. Senior Kellen Roddy followed with a second-place finish in the 500 Free. He finished with an NCAA B time of 4:25.23. Junior Daniel Byrnes then placed sixth in 4:35.28. Junior Jonik Surprenant placed sixth in the B Final with a time of 4:38.15. Freshman Will Dunlap took eighth in the C Final with a time of 4:45.31.
 
Junior Joe Castagno took fifth in the 200 IM with an NCAA B time of 1:50.59. Sophomore Matthew Hartshorn and junior Eric Ji followed in seventh and eighth, respectively. Hartshorn finished in 1:52.29, with Ji clocking in in 1:53.25. Sophomore Bryce Lloyd finished in second place in the B Final with a time of 1:51.71. Junior Nathan Jin took the top spot in the C Final as he clocked in at 1:52.28, shaving nearly three seconds off his prelim time.
 
Gilbert took eight place in the B Final of the 50 Free with a swim of 21.50. Clapp and Sandid went one-two in the C Final, both turning in career-best swims. Clapp took the win in 20.68 while Sandid finished in 20.96. Mayr followed in fifth place with a time of 21.27. Both Gilbert and Mayr posted career-best times in the prelims.
 
Hopkins wrapped up the first day with a second-place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. Lloyd, senior Justin Limberg, Clapp and senior Jay Heymann turned in an NCAA B time of 3:16.61 to finish in a close second behind UMBC.
 
Graduate student Brandon Stride posted an NCAA B time in a 200 Breast time trial as he clocked in at 1:59.65.
 
The Bucknell Invitational continues on Saturday at 10:00 am with the prelims of the 400 IM.
