When Last We Saw Them
• Johns Hopkins opened the 2023 season with a 12-7 win at then 17th-ranked Jacksonville on Saturday, February 4.
• Georgetown is playing its 2023 season opener this weekend at Johns Hopkins. The Hoyas posted a 15-2 record and won the BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles last season.

• This is the 136th season of Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse. JHU first fielded a team in 1883.
• Johns Hopkins enters this week's game with an all-time record of 1,005-364-15 (.732).
• Johns Hopkins is the only men's lacrosse program in the nation with 1,000 or more all-time victories. The Blue Jays picked up the program's 1,000th victory with an 11-10 win over Loyola on February 19, 2022.
• JHU owns 44 national championships with nine NCAA titles, 29 USILA titles and six ILA crowns to its credit.
Series History
• Johns Hopkins and Georgetown will be meeting for the fifth time in a series that dates to a 15-10 Blue Jay victory in 1993.
• JHU won the first three meetings, including a 14-6 win in the 2007 NCAA Quarterfinals and a 10-9 OT win in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
• In the 2018 game, Georgetown led 8-3 late in the third quarter before Johns Hopkins used a 6-1 run to force overtime and then won it on a Shack Stanwick goal with 29 seconds remaining in the first OT.
• Georgetown picked up its first win against Johns Hopkins early in the 2022 season as the Hoyas turned an early 5-3 deficit into a 16-8 victory. That was the first time the teams met at GU.

• Johns Hopkins Has played 15 all-time games against teams currently competing in the BIG EAST.
• The Blue Jays are 13-2 all-time against BIG EAST teams with more than half of those (8) coming against Villanova.

Balanced Scoring in Opener
• Johns Hopkins got goals from nine different players and points from 11 different players in the 12-7 season-opening win at Jacksonville.
• Jacob Angelus, Dylan Bauer and Brendan Grimes all scored twice to lead the balanced effort against the Dolphins. Angelus (2g, 2a), Bauer (2g, 1a), Grimes (2g) and Johnathan Peshko (1g, 1a) all registered multi-point games.
First Strikes for Chauvette, Phillips, Deans
• Juniors Cameron Chauvette and Patrick Deans and sophomore Stuart Phillips all scored the first goals of their career in the win against Jacksonville.
• All three scored during a game-ending 7-2 run that turned a 5-5 tie into the 12-7 victory. Deans and Chauvette scored the first two of those seven goals and Phillips added the seventh goal of the run.
Pole Goals
• Johns Hopkins got a pair of goals from its long sticks in the win at Jacksonville as graduate student Alex Mazzone and junior Patrick Deans both scored in transition.
• Mazzone's goal, which gave JHU an early 2-1 lead, was his first as a Blue Jay and the ninth of his career, while Deans' goal was the first of his career.
• Last season, the Blue Jays got 14 goals and eight assists for 22 points from non-offensive players. With Mazzone and Deans both scoring goals and goalie Tim Marcille adding an assist, the Blue Jays got three points in the opener from non-offensive personnel.
+ 16 on GBs at Jacksonville
• Fueled by a strong performance on faceoffs, Johns Hopkins was +16 on ground balls (42-26) in the season-opening win at 17th-ranked Jacksonville last week.
• The +16 margin on GBs is the largest for the Blue Jays since they were +20 against Michigan (36-16) on March 30, 2019.
What's Back on Offense
• The Blue Jays return players who combined for 115 goals and 48 assists last season. Translation, JHU returns players who accounted for 65.7% of their goals and 45.3% of their assists in 2022.
• Graduate student Garrett Degnon returns after leading the team in goals (40) and points (47) last season. He is one of four players returning who scored more than 11 goals in 2022 (Jacob Angelus-19, Johnathan Peshko-16, Brendan Grimes-11).
• Angelus is Hopkins' returning leader in assists after dishing out 20 last season. Including his two in the season opener against Jacksonville, he now has 39 career assists.
Causing Trouble
• Johns Hopkins set a program single-season record in 2022 as the Blue Jays averaged 7.63 caused turnovers per game. This came one year after the Blue Jays had set a record by averaging 6.92 CTs per game in 2021.
• Among returning players, senior Beaudan Szuluk (21 CTs) and juniors Scott Smith (18) and Brett Martin (11) all totaled more than 10 caused turnovers last season, while graduate transfer Alex Mazzone had 20 CTs at Georgetown in 2022.
Strength of Schedule
• The Blue Jays' 15 regular season opponents combined to post a 160-82 (.661) record in 2022 with JHU's 10 non-conference opponents rolling up a 107-53 (.669) record. In addition, seven of the 15 qualified for the NCAA Tournament with two of those teams advancing to championship weekend.
Offensive Notes of Interest
• Since the start of the 2022 season, the Blue Jays are 7-1 when they scored 11 or more goals.
• Johns Hopkins scored 95 combined goals in the second (49) and fourth (46) quarters last season, but just 80 in the first (41) and third (39).
• JHU converted on 17-of-45 (.378) extra-man chances last season to rank 31st in the nation in extra-man offense.
Defensive Notes of Interest
• JHU allowed just 12 extra-man goals (on 35 chances) in 2022. The 12 EMO goals allowed are the fewest by a Blue Jay team since 2016, when Hopkins allowed just 11 (of 33 chances).
• Johns Hopkins was 5-0 last season and is 10-0 under head coach Peter Milliman and defensive coordinator Jamison Koesterer when holding the opposition to 10 goals or less. This includes last week's 12-7 win at Jacksonville.
