BIRMINGHAM, AL- The Johns Hopkins track & field program has its first ever two-time national champion. Going into the final jump, Victoria Kadiri was holding on to first place with a jump of 5.83m. Kadiri decided to leave no doubt as she soared through the air and landed with a PR and school record jump of 5.93m to seal the national title and become the first ever two-time national champ in program history. Kadiri's jump ties her for the seventh best performance in meet history, defending her national title from a year ago.
In addition to her national championship, Kadiri also earned All-American honors in the Pentathlon, coming in fifth place with a total of 3516, which is a PR and the second best performance in program history. She is the second athlete in school history to earn All-American honors in the Pentathlon, along with Annie Gutierrez. Kadiri also becomes just the fourth Blue Jay to earn multiple All-American honors at one championship.
Phillips Qualifies for Finals
- Lauren Phillips qualified for tomorrow's 60m finals with her performance in the preliminary runs today. Phillips clocked in at 7.64 for a PR and school record to advance to the finals. Phillips also qualified for tomorrow in the 400 as she ran a time of 56.51 to qualify for tomorrow's final in that event as well. She will compete against the other seven top eight runners in the country tomorrow.
Other Notes
- After earning an NCAA championship bid with their performance last weekend, the Blue Jays 4x400 relay team of Philips, Grace Massillon, Lianne Saussy and Anna Zaeske ran a time of 3:54.59 to finish off their indoor season.
- As a team, Johns Hopkins currently sit in seventh place with 14 points in total through six of the 17 total events.
- The Blue Jays will return to action tomorrow at the final day of the NCAA Championships.
