EDGEWATER, NJ – The ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over host Stevens Friday night in non-conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 5-0 on the season while the Ducks fall to 2-2.
Hopkins took control of the match early with a sweep of doubles. Juniors
James and
Thomas Yu put the Blue Jays up with an 8-4 win at first over Vivek Harinarayan and Aashi Kuakarni. Graduate student
Joe DeMarco and sophomore
Marco Azar then beat Olof Perrson and Max-William Kanz 8-6 at second. Graduate student
Mason Liu and freshman
Allen Gong completed the sweep with an 8-7 (3) win over Sebastian Wroe and Andrew He at third.
The Blue Jays then swept the singles matches without dropping a set.
Thomas Yu beat Harinarayan 6-0, 7-5 at first. Liu beat Kuakarni 7-6, 6-0 at second while
James Yu lost just two games in his win at third over He 6-2, 6-0. DeMarco was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at fourth over Kanza. Freshman
Pranav Gadiraju defeated Timothy Lau 7-6 (4), 6-1 at fifth. And at sixth, Gong dropped just two games in a 6-0, 6-2 win over Matt Luzzi.
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, March 17 as the Blue Jays take on third-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Swarthmore, PA.
