Johns Hopkins Upends 15th-Ranked Trinity, 6-3

SAN ANTONIO, TX – The 26th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team upset host and 15th-ranked Trinity (TX), 6-3, on Thursday night to wrap up its Spring Break trip to Texas. The Blue Jays win their sixth straight as they improve to 8-3, while the Tigers fall to 8-4.
 
The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Blue Jays won six of the next seven matches to earn the come-from-behind win.
 
Ellie Hughes and Brooke Belitz picked up the first point of the match with an 8-1 win at third doubles over senior Christina Huynh and freshman Niamh Harding. Olivia Kim and Ruth Hill then defeated freshman Kamila Wong and Jay Xiao at first. Graduate student Mary Beth Hurley and senior Emily Javedan started the comeback with an 8-2 win at second over 16th-ranked Cate Cushing and Trinity Levy.
 
Senior Anjali Devireddy took the first singles point and tied the match at two when she beat Cushing 6-3, 6-3 at fourth. Harding then gave the Blue Jays the lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win oat sixth over Ella Cummings. Hill answered with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 win over Xiao at first to tie the match at three.
 
Huynh put Hopkins back on top, for good it turned out, when she came back to beat Hughes 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 at fifth. Hurley then clinched the victory with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win at second over Kim. Wong closed out the match at third with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 win over Levy, ranked 28th in the nation.
 
Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, March 28 with a pair of matches at home versus Bryn Mawr and at Towson.
 
Notes: The 15th-ranked Tigers are the highest ranked opponent the Blue Jays since a 5-1 win over 15th-ranked Mary Washington on May 11, 2019.
