BALTIMORE, MD – The 31
st-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team picked up a pair of shutout wins Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Jays beat the Bryn Mawr Owls, 9-0, in their home opener and then made the short trip to Towson and beat the Division I Tigers, 7-0.
Hopkins improves to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference.
Playing at home for the first time since early May 2022, Hopkins jumped on top of Bryn Mawr early. The Blue Jays lost just one game in doubles as they grabbed a quick 3-0 lead.
Bea Manjon and
Zoe Hsieh beat Kelly Cole and Macey Ellis, 8-0, at third doubles to put JHU up 1-0.
Mary Beth Hurley and
Emily Javedan won by the same score at first over Bryant Wynn and Lowrey West.
Catharina Ausfahl and
Celina Liu wrapped up doubles with an 8-1 win over Kelli Eng and Fernanda Hurtado.
Manjon took the first point of singles when she beat Ellis 6-0, 6-1 at sixth. Javedan clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cole at fourth. Hurley pushed the Blue Jays' lead to 6-0 when she won without dropping a game at first over Bryant. Liu then took a 6-1, 6-0 victory at second over West. Hsieh followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Hurtado at third. Ausfahl then wrapped up the match when she beat Eng 6-3, 6-2 at fifth.
Hopkins then hit the road to take on host Towson.
Ali Bader and
Anjali Devireddy did not drop a game as they beat Erin Gray and Sarah Popischill at third doubles.
Niamh Harding and
Christina Huynh then beat Nadeen Shrebati and Sania Suchinsky, 6-3, at second to take the doubles point for the Blue Jays.
Bader won by default at sixth singles and Hopkins led 2-0. Harding followed with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth over Gray. Xiao clinched the win for JHU with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Pospishill at first.
Kamila Wong then beat Olivia Rothfeld 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (1) at second and it was 5-0 Blue Jays. Devireddy beat Lea Kosanovic 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (5). Huynh then closed out the win with a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win at Suchinsky at fourth.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 1 as the Blue Jays visit 20
th-ranked Swarthmore.
