BALTIMORE, MD – The eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win over Gettysburg in its home opener Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference, while the Bullets fall to 1-4 and 0-2 in the conference.
The Blue Jays jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a doubles' sweep.
Nick Charanjiva and
Andrew Tran took the first point of the match with an 8-3 win at third over Matt Rau and Michael Zayneh.
Marco Azar and
George Jiang followed with an 8-5 defeat of Adam Contract and JP Damare at second.
Daniel Ardila and
Thomas Yu wrapped up doubles when they beat Michael Fellman and Alex Kagan, 8-5, at first.
Pranav Gadiraju quickly pushed Hopkins' lead to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Zayneh at third singles.
Zahari Stoimenov then clinched the victory with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth over Connor McPartland.
Allen Gong followed with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Contract at fourth. Yu put Hopkins up 7-0 when he beat Fellman 6-1, 6-1 at first.
Mason Liu then defeated Kagan 6-1, 6-2 at second.
Karan Belday closed out the match when he beat Hayden Strittmatter 6-4, 6-2 at sixth.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 1 at 28
th-ranked Swarthmore.
