Johns Hopkins Blanks Muhlenberg and Washington College

BALTIMORE, MD – The 25th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team picked up a pair of road shutout wins in Centennial Conference play Saturday. The Blue Jays beat Muhlenberg in the morning and then Washington College in the afternoon.
 
Hopkins kicked off the day with the shutout in Allentown. The Blue Jays jumped out to a 3-0 lead after dropping just four total games in doubles. Sophomores Zoe Hsieh and Bea Manjon grabbed the first point of the match with an 8-1 win over Malin Hermanson and Stefanie Wolff at third. Senior Anjali Devireddy and junior Ali Bader then won 8-1 at first over Kety Gaidamashvili and Giulia Gerschel. Senior Celina Liu and sophomore Catharina Ausfahl then closed out doubles with an 8-2 win over Sophia Framm and Caitlin Bestrycki at second.
 
Devireddy quickly pushed Hopkins' lead to 4-0 when she beat Gaidamashvili without dropping a game at first singles. Liu then clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Gerschel at third. Bader then lost just one game at second over Framm. Manjon then won 8-0 at sixth over Julia Lennon. Hsieh also won without losing a game as she beat Bestrycki at fourth. Ausfahl wrapped up the match when she defeated Hermanson.
 
The Blue Jays again swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. Freshman Niamh Harding and senior Christina Huynh didn't drop a game in their win over Isabella Sorhegui and Bin Nguyen at third. Freshmen Jay Xiao and Kamila Wong then beat Irene Meng and Piper Sartison, 8-5, at first. Senior Emily Javedan and graduate student Mary Beth Hurley completed the sweep with an 8-5 defeat of Soleil Namunyola and Eva Kading at second.
 
Wong grabbed the first point of singles play when she beat Sartison 6-0, 6-3 at third. Huynh then clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Namunyola at fourth. Hurley then defeated Kading 6-3, 6-0 at first and it was 6-0 Hopkins. Xiao followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win at first over Meng. Harding lost just one game at fifth as she defeated Nguyen 6-0, 6-1. Javedan then closed out the shutout with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Katie Ruppert at sixth.
 
Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, March 21 as the Blue Jays travel to the Lonestar State to take on Colby an Schreiner.
