BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team took down host and 30
th-ranked Mary Washington, 7-2, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 14-3 on the season while the Eagles fall to 7-9.
Hopkins swept the doubles to jump out to a 3-0 lead on Mary Washington.
Anjali Devireddy and
Christina Huynh took the first point of the match with an 8-6 win over Riley Smith and Emily Beckner at third.
Jay Xiao and
Kamila Wong then beat Amanda Hagino and Hana Kimmey, 8-6, at first.
Mary Beth Hurley and
Emily Javedan then completed the sweep as they won 8-7 (3) over Abigail Moghtader and Rebecca Stepleman at second.
Hurley earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Moghtader at first singles. Hagino grabbed a point for the Eagles with a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (8) win at second over Xiao. Wong defeated Kimmey 6-2, 6-3 at third and Devireddy rallied to beat Stepleman at fourth (2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (9)). Huynh clinched the victory for the Blue Jays when she beat Beckner 6-1, 6-2 at fifth. Smith took another point for the hosts as she beat
Celina Liu 7-5, 6-2 at sixth.
Hopkins has won 12 straight heading into the final week of the regular season. JHU returns to action on Wednesday, April 19 as the Blue Jays visit the Gettysburg Bullets.
