BALTIMORE, MD – The 10
th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team beat Washington College, 5-0, in the Centennial Conference semifinals Thursday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 18-3 on the season while the Shoremen fall to 7-9.
Joe DeMarco and
George Jiang gave the Blue Jays an early 1-0 lead when they beat Christian Gruyon and Rhoyei Kawai, 8-3, at third doubles.
James and
Thomas Yu then defeated Karl Hoegstedt and Andre-Remi Jakobi, 8-4, at first.
Daniel Ardila and
Jonathan Zhang closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Jack Fanshawe and Landon Strobe at second.
James Yu pushed Hopkins' lead to 4-0 as he lost just one game in his win. He beat A. Ravichandran 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles.
Thomas Yu then turned the same trick with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Hoegstedt at first to clinch the victory for the Blue Jays.
Hopkins will now take on top seed Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference Championship on Saturday, April 29.
