BALTIMORE, MD – The eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team took down visiting Haverford, 8-1, in Centennial Conference action Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 12-3 on the season and 4-1 in the CC, while the Fords fall to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead and then grabbed five of the six singles matches to take the win.
James and
Thomas Yu picked up the first point of the match when they beat Stefan Johnson and James McKenzie, 8-1, at first doubles.
Daniel Ardila and
Allen Gong then defeated Aiden Kim and Abhinav Nallapareddy, 8-2, at third.
Joe DeMarco and
George Jiang completed the doubles' sweep with an 8-3 win over Adam Chow and Justin Minerva at second.
Marco Azar pushed Hopkins' lead to 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over McKenzie at fourth singles. Minerva then took a point for the Fords as he beat Jiang 6-3, 6-2 at fifth.
James Yu clinched the victory for the Blue Jays as he beat Kim 7-5, 6-0 at third.
Thomas Yu followed with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win over Johnson at first.
Andrew Tran rallied for a three-set win (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) at sixth over Chow to make it 7-1. Liu wrapped up the match when he defeated Andreas Wingert 6-3, 7-6 (4) at second.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, April 12 with matches at Morgan State and Dickinson.
