ORLANDO, FL – Fourth-ranked Middlebury ended Johns Hopkins' run in the NCAA Tournament Sunday morning as the Panthers beat the Blue Jays, 5-2, in the quarterfinals. The Blue Jays' see their school-record 19-match win streak snapped as they end the season at 21-4. The Panthers improve to 17-3 and advance to the national semifinals.
Middlebury took a 2-0 lead but Hopkins prevented the doubles' sweep and made it a 2-1 match heading into singles. Nina Farhat and Sami Remis put the Panthers up early with an 8-2 win over
Anjali Devireddy and
Christina Huynh at third doubles. Amy Delman and Sahana Raman followed with an 8-5 win over
Kamila Wong and
Jay Xiao at first.
Mary Beth Hurley and
Emily Javedan answered with an 8-7 win at second over Gena Huang and Claudia Miller.
Raman beat Hurley 6-3, 6-2 at first singles and Miller won 6-3, 6-3 at fifth over Huynh. Wong grabbed a point for the Blue Jays when she beat Lulu Wu 7-5, 7-5 at third. Delman then clinched the win for the Panthers with a close 7-6, 6-4 win at second over Xiao.
The season will continue for Wong and Xiao as the duo will compete in the NCAA Doubles Championship, beginning May 18.
