ROCHESTER, NY – Junior
Victoria Kadiri continues to re-write the Johns Hopkins and NCAA record books. She claimed her second national title and second national record this weekend at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Kadiri dominated the field in the triple jump and smashed the six-year-old record by 0.21 meters to win her second straight outdoor title in the event. She broke the national record of 13.00m with her second jump (13.05m) but then put the record, and the title, comfortably in her pocket with a jump of 13.21 on her last jump. In fact, four of Kadiri's five jumps would have secured her the national championship as the second-place finisher turned in a 12.45m.
Kadiri has now won four individual titles at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and boasts three titles at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Her seven individual national championships are the most by any woman in Johns Hopkins history and are third most for any athlete in school history.
Kadiri wasn't the only Blue Jay to step on the podium on the third and final day of the track championships. Sophomore
Lauren Phillips ran to a fourth-place finish in the 400m with a finals time of 55.96. She is the first Johns Hopkins athlete to earn All-America honors in the 400m at the outdoor championships. She also earned the honor at the 2023 indoor championships in March.
Johns Hopkins finished in eighth place in the team standings with 26 points. JHU was just one point behind seventh-place Mount Union and three points behind sixth-place Wartburg.
In addition to Kadiri and Phillips, senior
Sara Stephenson also competed on the final day of the championships. She placed ninth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a finals time of 10:40.54, just missing a spot on the podium. She then wrapped up the meet with a 13
th place finish in the 5,000m in 17:18.71.
