LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins grabbed 10 first-place votes and totaled 100 points to earn the top spot in the 2023 Centennial Conference Preseason Women's Soccer Poll of the league's head coaches it was announced today.  The Blue Jays grab the top spot in the poll for the for the sixth consecutive year dating back to 2017 (no poll in 2020; season canceled due to COVID pandemic).  Coaches are not permitted to vote for their own team when casting their ballot
 
Dickinson, which fell to the Blue Jays in the 2022 Centennial Conference title game, placed second in the poll as the Red Devils earned 85 points.  Swarthmore grabbed the lone first-place vote that didn't' go to Johns Hopkins and totaled 80 points to place third, while McDaniel (74 points) and Franklin & Marshall (71) rounded out the top five.
 
Johns Hopkins won its league-record 13^th Centennial Conference Tournament title with its win over Dickinson in the 2022 championship game.  The Blue Jays went on to win the program's first NCAA Championship and finished the season with a 21-game winning streak and a 23-0-2 record.
 
The Blue Jays will open the 2023 season on Friday, September 1 (5 pm) at home against Sewanee in the first game of the Johns Hopkins Invitational.  Hopkins will then play nationally-ranked Scranton on September 3 in the second game of the tournament before welcoming Messiah to Homewood Field for an early-season rematch of the 2022 NCAA Semifinal between the two teams that the Blue Jays won 4-1.  Johns Hopkins is ranked number one in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, while Scranton is 16^th and Messiah is third.
