BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team opened Centennial Conference play with a 1-1 draw versus Muhlenberg Saturday at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays are now 3-1-3 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference. The Mules are now 3-1-1 and 0-0-1 in the Centennial.
After a back-and-forth first half, it was Hopkins that got on the board first. Graduate student
Aidan Dunphy chipped a ball into the Mules' box that was deflected by a defender. Junior
Jonathan Cui headed the ball to graduate student
Max Edelstein, who settled the ball and then played it wide to graduate student
Eli Carr. He took one touch and then beat Ben Mulford with a low shot from six yards out.
Two minutes later, Zack Mikuta got through the Blue Jay defense and into the box, but graduate student
JP Furman came out of the goal to snuff out the chance. The Mules got the equalizer in the 63
rd minute off a long throw in by Sebastian Tis. He launched the ball into the box and to the feet of Greyson King, who poked home the tying goal from the doorstep. Just three minutes after that, Carr nearly had his second of the afternoon. A
Giulian Laudisa shot was blocked by the defense off a corner kick and the ball rebounded to Carr, who ripped a shot that Mulford was just able to tip over the bar and out.
Hopkins finished with a 10-7 edge in shots and a 5-2 advantage in corners. Furman finished with one save for the Blue Jays while Mulford tallied three for the Mules.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 20 at Stevenson. The non-conference contest is slated for a 6:00 pm start at Mustang Stadium.
