LANCASTER, PA – For the second time this season, Johns Hopkins volleyball's
Simrin Carlsen has been named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the week, as released this morning. The Blue Jays have now been home to the conference's top offensive player for three consecutive weeks.
Carlsen was the leader on both sides of the court for Hopkins in a 3-1 week, averaging team-high marks in kills (5.00), digs (4.00) and points (5.61) per set. The Edison, NJ native opened her week with a 14-kill, 12-dig effort in a 3-0 sweep over Marymount, following that up with another 15 kills and seven digs in a four-set win against Salisbury.
The junior outside hitter saved her best for last, however, combining for 41 kills and 37 digs in the Jays' final two games of the Hopkins Invitational Saturday. In Hopkins' first match against Mount Union, Carlsen tallied career-highs in kills (21) and digs (20) to secure her first career 20-20 game before adding 20 kills and 17 digs on a .333 hitting percentage in the team's sweep of Scranton.
Across 10 matches this season, Carlsen's averages of 5.27 points and 4.54 kills per set lead the Centennial Conference and rank fifth and sixth in the country respectively.
The Blue Jays are back in action Saturday, Sept. 30 when they open up Centennial Conference play with a match against Ursinus.
