WINCHESTER, VA – The second-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team scored twice in the fourth quarter to beat host and 25
th-ranked Shenandoah Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 2-0 on the season while the Hornets fall to 1-1.
The Blue Jays got on the board with less than five minutes remaining in the first half. Sophomore
Grace Waldeck fired a shot on cage from in tight and it rebounded out to junior
Emily Amsden, who one-timed the ball past Taylor Swan to give JHU the lead. The lead lasted just about 10 minutes and then the Hornets drew even on a penalty corner. Farren Winter found Elizabeth Ranberger for the score just 5:02 into the third quarter.
Hopkins retook the lead when junior
Jenna Halpin banged home a loose ball in the circle with 10:01 to play in the game. Senior
Alexis Loder then stopped a Shenandoah penalty stroke to keep the Blue Jays on top. Senior
Siena Urbanski responded on the other end with a goal off a feed from classmate
Mikayla Schoff at the 58:42-mark.
Hopkins outshot Shenandoah, 15-6, and had an 11-4 advantage in corners. Loder finished with three saves in the win while Swann made seven for the Hornets.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 6 when the Blue Jays travel to 13
th-ranked York. The non-conference tilt is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
