Johns Hopkins Swims Past Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, PA – In its last dual meet of the season, the Johns Hopkins men's swim team cruised to an 81-25 win at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. The Blue Jays won 10 of the 11 events and took first and second in five of the 10 wins.
 
Hopkins kicked things off with a first and third place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Sophomore Bryce Lloyd, senior Justin Limberg and sophomores Avery Clapp and Christian Mayr earned the win with a time of 1:31.39. The team of senior Reef Ide, freshmen Adam Sandid, Rad Couture band Andrew Gilbert finished in third in 1:33.34.
 
Senior Alex Ren placed second in the 1000 Free as he finished in 10:20.99. The Blue Jays then dominated in the 200 IM, taking first through fourth place. Graduate student Ike Shirakata led the way with a season-best swim of 1:53.00. Sophomore Matthew Hartshorn took second in 1:53.65 and classmate Andrew Huang followed closely in third (1:53.88). Freshman Will Dunlap rounded out the top four with a time of 1:54.49.
 
The Blue Jays then took first and third in the 400 Free Relay. The team of Lloyd, Clapp, senior Jay Heymann and Mayr won the event in 3:03.62. Sandid, Gilbert, Couture and sophomore Shawn Zhou placed third in 3:10.13. JHU followed with a sweep of the top five spots in the 200 Breast, led by junior Eric Ji, who clocked in at 2:02.53. Graduate student Brandon Stride took second in 2:04.96, followed by Hartshorn (2:05.57), junior Joe Castagno (3:05.63) and Shirakata (2:06.74).
 
Senior Kellen Roddy and junior Daniel Byrnes then went one-two in the 200 Free. Roddy touched the wall in 1:41.34 for the win, with Byrnes clocking in at 1:43.61. Hopkins followed with a one-two-three finish in the 400 Medley Relay. Lloyd, Limberg, Clapp and Heymann grabbed the win in 3:19.84. Ide, junior Nathan Jin, Couture and Mary followed in second with a time of 3:24.81. Ren, Castagno, Huang and Sandid finished in third place in 3:26.80.
 
Dunlap picked up a win for the Blue Jays in the 1000 Free as he finished in 4:51.58. Couture finished in fourth place with a swim of 4:53.22. Jin wrapped up the individual events with another win for Hopkins as he took the top spot in the 200 Back in 1:55.81. Byrnes finished in second place with a time of 1:57.24.
 
Hopkins ended the day with first and fourth place finishes in the 200 Free Relay. Sandid, Clapp, Mayr and Heymann combined for a winning time of 1:23.63. Gilbert, Ide, Couture and Zhou took fourth in 1:26.32.
 
The Blue Jays are back in action at the Cavalier Invitational February 9-11.
