ALLENTOWN, PA – Fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins went on the road for the first time in more than three weeks and shutout Muhlenberg, 2-0. The Blue Jays improve to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference, while the Mules fall to 5-5 and 0-3 in the conference.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Blue Jays got on the board midway through the second.
Sophia Albano passed a loose ball into the circle to
Kaitlin Coward, who turned and passed to
Lila Slattery on the back post. Slattery settled the pass and then slipped a low shot past Maddie Schwartz with 6:45 to play in the half.
The score stayed 1-0 until late in the fourth when the Blue Jays capitalized on a penalty corner. Shots by
Jenna Halpin and
Sophie Gomez were blocked before the ball ricocheted to Slattery. She fired a shot from the middle of the circle and
Megan Chang tipped it into the cage to make it 2-0 with 3:10 to play.
Aubrye Kilgore got the start and played 45 minutes without having to make a save in the cage.
Jessica Lapidus played in the second quarter and made one save to help preserve the shutout. Schwartz finished with four saves in the loss for the Mules. Hopkins finished with a 15-1 advantage in shots and an 11-1 advantage in corners.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, October 7 as the Blue Jays visit the Stevenson Mustangs. The non-conference contest is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
