OWINGS MILLS, MD – Fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins rode a pair of first-half goals to a 2-1 win over host Stevenson Wednesday night. The Blue Jays improve to 10-2 on the season while the Mustangs fall to 9-2-1.
Lila Slattery put the Blue Jays on the board just before halftime as they cashed in on a penalty corner.
Ava Balacek inserted the corner to
Sophie Gomez on the near side of the circle. She crossed the ball to Slattery on, who took one touch and fired a shot on the cage that was redirected by
Grace Waldeck.
Hopkins doubled its lead, once again near the end of the quarter and off a corner.
Liz Falterer took the insert from Gomez, faked a pass and then fired a shot towards the back post and
Eliza Vander tipped it in with 1:25 on the clock.
Stevenson cut the deficit in half just 4:35 into the third quarter after the Mustangs earned a penalty stroke. Emma Gladstein fired home the stroke to make it a 2-1 game.
Hopkins finished with a 20-5 advantage in shots and 14-7 edge in corners.
Aubrey Kilgore made a pair of saves to earn the win while Jordan Vradenburg made nine in the loss for the Mustangs.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 12 as the Blue Jays host the Haverford Fords. The Centennial Conference game is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
