BALTIMORE, MD –
Matthew Hartshorn broke the meet record in the 400 IM to lead Johns Hopkins on day two of the Loyola H20unds Invitational. JHU posted four top-three finishes and two NCAA B cuts while picking up 614 points. Hopkins counts 1,305 through two days and sits in second place behind Loyola.
Avery Clapp opened the night with a runner-up finish in the A Final of the 100 Fly. He clocked in at 48.25, an NCAA B cut.
Aden Li won the B Final as he touched in 49.20. Hartshorn then turned in his record-breaking swim in the 400 IM. He shaved nearly three seconds off his prelim time and won the A Final by 4.3 seconds. Hartshorn beat the field with his time of 3:54.92, an NCAA B cut and the meet record.
Larkin Helman followed in third place with a swim of 4:00.61 and
Will Dunlap placed fifth in 4:01.95.
Joe Castagno won the B Final as he touched in 4:08.02.
Josiah March led the Blue Jays with an eighth-place finish in the A Final of the 200 Free with a time of 1:41.70.
Jonathan Wang just missed an NCAA B cut with his swim of 55.47 to finish in sixth place in the A Final of the 100 Breast.
Eric Ji finished in eighth place with a swim of 56.13.
Dylan Jewett took fifth place in the A Final of the 100 Back in 50.29.
Hopkins wrapped up day two with a second-place finish in the 200 Free Relay.
Rad Couture, Clapp,
Jay Heymann and
Christian Mayr combined for a time of 1:21.91.
The H20unds Invitational concludes on Sunday, November 24. The first event of the day is the prelims of the 200 Back. The evening session will begin with the 400 Medley Relay.
