LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins will join the Centennial Conference for men's and women's swimming beginning with the 2025-26 academic year. The Blue Jays have competed as an independent since leaving the Bluegrass Mountain Conference (BMC) after the 2015-16 season.
"We are thrilled to join the Centennial Conference in men's and women's swimming, and to provide our scholar-athletes the opportunity to compete against some top competition," said Associate Vice Provost for Student Affairs, Director of Athletics and Recreation
Jennifer S. Baker. "Hopkins has been a proud member of the Centennial for a long time, and we are excited to begin this new chapter with them."
The Blue Jay men won 35 team conference championships as well as 240 individual and 87 relay championships as members of the MAC (1964-1987), UAA (1987-2001), ECAC (2003-2009) and BMC (2010-2016). The 35 conference titles are the most of any team in Johns Hopkins' history. Hopkins also produced 13 conference swimmers of the year, six conference divers of the year and 1,200 all-conference selections from 1964-2016.
Johns Hopkins has qualified for every NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championship since its inception in 1975. The Blue Jays have won three team NCAA Championships and 69 individual and relay NCAA titles and produced more than 1,500 All-Americans.
"We are excited to have a conference championship for our teams to work towards," said head coach
Scott Armstrong. "This will provide us with new goals and opportunities, and we are all extremely grateful to the Johns Hopkins athletic administration and the Centennial Conference for their support in creating this opportunity for the team."
The Blue Jay women have claimed 12 team conference championships along with 123 individual and 56 relay titles in the MAC, UAA and BMC (2005-2016). From 1976 to 2016, JHU produced eight conference swimmers of the year, three divers of the year and 1,046 all-conference honorees.
JHU has participated in all 42 NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. Blue Jay swimmers and divers have claimed 16 NCAA individual and relay titles and have combined for more than 900 All-America honors.
Johns Hopkins is no stranger to the teams in the Centennial Conference as the Blue Jays have competed against six of the schools in the conference. The series against Franklin & Marshall, Dickinson and Swarthmore date to 1965 for the men, while the series against Gettysburg began in 1970. For the women, the Blue Jays began competing against the Bullets in 1975 and one year later began series with the Diplomats and Red Devils. Hopkins first competed against Swarthmore in 1984.
The 2026 Centennial Conference Championship is scheduled for February 19-22 at Franklin & Marshall.
