Johns Hopkins Tops Bryn Mawr, 2-1, in Centennial Semifinals

BALTIMORE, MD – Host and fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins beat 15th-ranked Bryn Mawr, 2-1, in the Centennial Conference Semifinals Thursday night at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays improve to 16-3 while the Owls fall to 14-6.

Hopkins got on the board early with graduate student Lila Slattery's team-leading 15th goal of the season. Senior Sophie Gomez took the ball deep in the Bryn Mawr end and then sent a pass to Slattery at the top of the circle. She took a touch around her defender and then hit a reverse from 10 yards out inside the right post just 4:58 into the game.

Senior Lis Falterer nearly put the Blue Jays up 2-0 at the end of two off a penalty corner, but her shot hit the post. Hopkins got what turned out to be a key insurance goal midway through the third quarter. Senior Jenna Halpin received a corner insert from Emily Amsden and then made a short pass to junior Zoey Bennett. She then centered the ball to junior Megan Chang, who redirected the ball into the back of the cage.

Bryn Mawr cut the deficit in half with 9:35 to play in the game off Lucie Burgess' goal. Off a restart, Reba Ervin dribbled several yards before passing the ball to Burgess in the circle. She took a touch and then hit a low shot to the right post to make it a 2-1 game. Just over two minutes later, the Owls earned a corner by Eva Yacura's shot went wide and the Blue Jays were able to kill off the final seven minutes.

Sophomore Aubrey Kilgore finished with four saves and Charlene Basque also made four saves before being pulled for an extra attacker with 1:18 to play. Hopkins had an 11-10 edge in shots while Bryn Mawr had a 7-6 advantage in corners.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, November 9 in the Centennial Conference Championship game. JHU will host the winner of second-seeded Ursinus and fourth-seeded Franklin & Marshall at 6:30 pm.

Notes: Hopkins advances to the conference title game for the seventh straight season • Slattery is now tied for seventh in JHU single-season history with 37 points and tied for fifth with 15 goals • Kilgore is now tied for 2nd with her 16th win over the season.
