Hopkins Posts Six NCAA Times at Cavalier Invitational, Tiger Open

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Johns Hopkins women's swim team traveled to Charlottesville, VA for the annual Cavalier Invitational and is the only Division III team in the eight-team field. JHU also sent a pair of swimmers to nearby Towson for the Tiger Winter Open.
 
Hopkins posted five NCAA B qualifying times as well as three career swims down in Charlottesville. In addition, junior Kristin Cornish posted an NCAA B time at Towson.
 
JHU kicked off the day with a win and second-place finish in the 200 Free Relay. The team of freshman Elizabeth Cohen, senior Caroline Storen, junior Michelle Liu and senior Makenzie Higgins won the event with an NCAA B time of 1:34.85. Taking second place were sophomore Alia Basler, freshman Kimberly Lan and sophomores Alex Watson and Claire Han with a time of 1:36.57.
 
Junior Meaghan Susil led the Blue Jays in the 500 Free as she placed 13th with a swim of 5:02.76. Watson finished in 15th in 5:04.33. Freshman Ayden Min followed in 17th place in 5:07.60 and junior Hannah Fu finished in 22nd place with a time of 5:18.95.
 
Sophomore Rachel Davis was the long Blue Jay in the 200 IM and she finished in 11th place with a time of 2:08.04. Lan then led a contingent of seven Blue Jays in the 50 Free. She finished in 10th place with a career-best swim of 23.71. Higgins and Liu tied for 13th place as they touched in 23.95. Cohen followed closely in 16th place, just three-hundredths of a second later. Storen turned in a career-best time of 24.27 for 20th place. Basler finished in 22nd place with a time of 24.56 and Han followed three-hundredths of a second later for 24th place.
 
Hopkins ended the day the way it began with first and second place finishes in the 400 Medley Relay. Senior Cameron Roche, junior Taylor Rohovit, freshman Kate Petitt and Higgins won the relay with an NCAA B time of 3:48.64. The team of Lan, sophomore Katherine Chelus, Cohen and Watson posted an NCAA B time of 3:50.79. Lan also posted an NCAA B time and career-best swim of 56.66 in her lead-off leg. In addition, Rohovit turned in an NCAA B time of 2:18.76 in the 200 Breast time trial.
 
At Towson, Cornish won the 500 Free and finished with an NCAA B time of 4:56.91.
 
Hopkins returns to action at both invitationals on Saturday, February 10. The Cavalier Invitational kicks off with the prelims at 11:00 am while the Tiger Winter Open begins at 10:00 am.
